Title contenders Mzwandile ‘Snakebone’ Hlongwa and JC Lamprecht both successfully made weight when they hit the scales this morning at the EFC Performance Institute, where tomorrow night they will contest the Light-Heavyweight Championship of Africa.

Both remained respectful yet supremely confident of victory tomorrow night, with Hlongwa claiming to foresee his opponent attempting to wrestle his way to victory instead of trading strikes, whilst Lamprecht predicted a victory wherever the fight may lead them. With UFC stars Dricus du Plessis and Cameron Saaiman backing their CIT teammate, Lamprecht, Hlongwa professed to be a more experienced and unique fighter, the likes of which Lamprecht has yet to face. Regardless, this title fight has the potential to be the biggest 205lb title fight in African sporting history since Simon Biyong won it almost four years ago.

As today’s weigh-ins took place on Women’s Day, two of the hottest prospects in women’s mixed-martial arts squared-up with Mischka Laubscher from Cape Town getting her first look at her opponent from Pretoria, Dayne van Wyk. Though Laubscher is the current continental amateur champion, Van Wyk remains undefeated in the Hexagon and the winner of this fight may surely qualify in asking for a shot at the EFC legend, Amanda Lino’s bantamweight belt.

The remaining face-offs were intense without infractions and while a few athletes will be fined a portion of their purses for falling on the wrong side of the governing body’s needle, all 20 athletes stamped their Hex passes ensuring that EFC 106 delivers a night of non-stop action including a historic title-fight that may change the landscape of the 205lb division for many years to come!
