Medical checks force Kanyeba out of fight with Kabesa
Confirmation from EFC management has just been received that Anicet “Showstopper” Kanyeba, due to face Igeu Kabesa in the co-main event at EFC 89, has been forced to step out of the fight due to medical reasons.
EFC has strict pre-fight medical checks and the EFC medical team has not given Anicet Kanyeba the green light to compete this weekend.
“Safety is the number one priority in the organisation, and although we are disappointed that this bout is not taking place and feel for both athletes for all the sacrifices they have made ahead of this event, we are pleased with the high medical standards that we continue to hold”, stated EFC President, Cairo Howarth.
Igeu Kabesa is now set to compete at EFC 90 next month and word from EFC Matchmaker Graeme Cartmell is that he will be facing a familiar Brazilian threat.
Updates relating to the upcoming events to follow soon.
EFC 89 Zuluboy vs Biko, presented by Restonic, takes place on Saturday 11 September 2021 live from the EFC Performance Institute in JHB, South Africa (no spectators due to COVID-19 government restrictions). Full broadcast and fight card information at www.efcworldwide.com
