Johannesburg (South Africa) EFC AFRICA 15, presented by MusclePharm, features some of the most anticipated bouts in EFC AFRICA history! One such monumental clash pits Donavin ‘Bam Bamz’ Hawkey against Chett ‘The Threat’ Meyer.

For years, Durban’s Hawkey was a dominant force in SA MMA, crushing all who dared enter the cage with heavy hands and relentless aggression. However, since joining EFC AFRICA in 2011, he has not had the same impact, going 1 win and 1 loss so far. He now hopes to topple the formidable Chett Meyer and announce that Bam Bamz is back in business.

“I think many EFC fighters underestimate my ability and are judging me on the pathetic loss to Danie van Heerden,” says Hawkey. “We all have off days and quite frankly I’m making that my last. I hesitated, Danie took advantage and ended the fight…life goes on. Chett seems to think that because Danie has submitted me and he’s submitted Danie, that he will therefore submit me. However, MMA doesn’t work that way and I am looking forward proving him wrong. Remember, I’ve always smashed my opponents in my comeback fights after a loss.”

According to Hawkey, Meyer is a respectful athlete who has improved from fight to fight, but that won’t mean much when they meet in the hexagon on 27 July.
“Chett is more of a ground specialist and lacks a stand-up game, which is something I could take advantage of. It’s quite funny how this fight has panned out, me being a former top ranked light heavyweight, Chett being the current top ranked light heavy, and us now meeting at middleweight! The only advantage Chett might have over me is the fact that he will be fighting in front of a home crowd, but this doesn’t faze me at all. My advantages are a far superior skill set and experience; I’m practically MMA furniture, I have more fights than the top 5 middleweights combined and have only entered the second round twice…I hope he is ready for that!”
