Background disciplines?

When & why did you start martial arts training?
I’ve been involved with martial arts for my whole life.
How and why did you transition to MMA?
I was drawn to the violence of it initially, the brutal honesty of combat and the contest of will and determination. As the game developed over the years the importance of skill increased to the point where a man with superior technique & skill could overcome an opponent without a challenge of willpower. So I set about developing my skills and I forgot what brought me to mixed martial arts in the first place. I’m back now with a whole new array and a hunger for honest violence, and I’m coming to wipe out some divisions.
One of my close friends is fond of telling me that fighting is such an honest profession. The guy across you is trying to beat you, and you are trying to beat him. Everybody knows that. On the other hand, outside of fighting, we live in a world where it is okay to run your mouth about a person behind his back, to pretend to be an ally when planning treachery, where confrontation is avoided at all costs and physical confrontation is considered barbaric. It’s a dishonest, two-faced, cowardly world. Sport competition brings the honesty back, and fighting is the most fundamental version of that.
What ranks & titles have you held?
BJJ Purple Belt
XFC Africa Lightweight Champion
What does it mean for you to fight in EFC?
EFC is a worldwide organisation and fighting has a bad reputation. Fighting for the EFC gives me an opportunity to show people that fighting is not about anger, in the same way that eating is not about greed and sleep is not about slothfulness. I love to fight, it’s in my blood, and the EFC lines up quality opponents for me, and then pays me for it. Fantastic.
